a patchwork of olive groves
and vineyards, dotted with ancient monasteries and medieval villages.
Legend has it that the first Romans came to the region of Sabina to kidnap and marry some local women, in order to extend and strengthen their own community.
This story is known as
The Rape of the Sabina Women
.
'I Monti Sabini' (the Sabine Hills), lie between the river Tiber in the west and the town of Rieti in the east.
The river Nera flows in the north, and the river Aniene in the south.

This, along with the limestone terrain and steep hillsides, creates the perfect condition for growing olives.
